Understanding Astral Projection and Astral Travel Techniques

Astral projection is a practice with a long history, just like meditation or yoga. There are many different names which astral projection is known as and there are many different ways to astral project.

One of these methods is lucid dreaming. This is something you probably already know something about. This, of course is when you are able to control your dreams because you are conscious and in full control of your faculties in the dream. You can begin lucid dreaming by telling yourself “I am dreaming” while you are in a dream.

When you do this you will wake up within your dream and you will be free to do what you want in the dream. For beginners this can be too random a practice to successfully astral project.

All of us have astral projected at some time in the past; maybe even many times, as it happens.

The key to success in astral projection is to believe you can do it. Any doubts or fears you have will only hold you back and make it harder for you to astral project.

Using relaxation techniques can help you to prepare your body and mind to astral project. Meditation is the best way to get started. You need to find a meditation technique which works for you in getting you into the relaxed state needed for astral projecting.

Choose a room where you will not be distracted, have a comfortable place to sit and where you will be able to have peace and quiet.

Clear your mind of all the stress and worries which can keep you from relaxing. Take deep, slow breaths and as you exhale, visualize all of this stress leaving your body and mind. Stay focused on your breathing and soon you’ll feel yourself relaxing, reaching the state of relaxation you’ll need to be in to astral project.

As you become closer and closer to the state where you can astral project, keep focusing on your breathing.

The breaths you take should come from deep down inside. As your breathing slows down, focus more and more on relaxing your body.

The next step is to totally relax your body, starting from the ground up. Tense each part of the body then relax it, as you exhale to relax, repeat ‘my toes are relaxing, and I am relaxing too.’

You can also tense each part of your body as you go and then breathe out that tension as you exhale. Once you are totally relaxed you are ready for the next stage of successfully managing to astral project.

Although you’re so relaxed by this point that it would be very easy to go to sleep, you need to stay alert. One good way to do this is to recite a sort of mantra to repeat to yourself. Anything will do – you can even just say ‘walk the dog, walk the dog’.

The human mind will wander when it is unoccupied by anything else; this can break the concentration necessary to astral project. To stay on track towards astral projecting, just keep repeating your phrase.

To actually reach an altered state of consciousness, there are several methods. You can repeat your statement to reach this next level. Or you can use the body of light technique. This technique is where you see a body of light in your mind that you envision yourself turning into.

When you begin to astral project three things will happen to let you know. You will have a feeling of movement. You will notice different colors and lights in front of you. Your eyes will be closed as you are still in your chair or bed. When you see the lights this is when you are passing into the astral zone.

Finally you will hear voices – these voices may urge you to stop what you’re doing or provide encouragement to keep going; this will let you know that you are astral projecting.
